The LR180ML43 has a reversed lead pipe and 43 bell. This means the lead pipe goes into the tuning slide rather than the tuning slide into the lead pipe as is found on a standard lead pipe. This makes for a smoother transition for the air and reduced turbulence and resistance in the tube. Generally it is more free blowing. The light weight body also makes the trumpet more resonant at lower dynamics. The 43 bell is a popular choice it has a faster bell taper than the 37 bell making a sligthly darker, warmer sound.
Unlike the standard 180-37, the 180-43 is better suited for soloists and lead players. This is because the #43 bell is more open with less resistance which helps with flexibility. This type of design is ideally suited for theatre or jazz musicians who play lead, but also need to blend in with the rest of the section.

The LR180-43ML features 1st and 3rd slide thumb saddles with the addition of a rod stop on the 3rd slide, so precise tuning can be achieved. The valves in the trumpet are crafted from monel which is a nickel and copper alloy. Monel valves are found in all Stradivarius trumpets as they smooth, resistant to corrosion, and hardwearing.
